The Penguins

Pop and Pip

Artists Name: Rachel Davies

Sponsored By: SPAR

“Emperor penguins breed in the harshest of conditions in the Antarctic, with temperatures reaching -50C. The males fast for up to four months while they breed and incubate the egg. They can lose up to 45% of their body weight during this time. Meanwhile the females travel long distances to get food for their young.

This penguin sculpture is designed to sparkle and shine from all angles, celebrating the dedication of parents to their young. The title was suggested by the artist’s daughter. ‘Pip’ was a young penguin in a favourite picture book and ‘Pop’ recognises the importance of fathers.”
